They Look and see but not perceive – Secrets of the Kingdom Unlocked

There are times when the Word of God seems hidden, when the mysteries of the Kingdom feel distant and unclear.
This is not by accident.

In Mark 4:10-12, Jesus reveals a profound truth: “The mystery of the kingdom of God has been granted to you. But to those outside everything comes in parables, so that “they may look and see but not perceive, and hear and listen but not understand, in order that they may not be converted and be forgiven.”'”

Jesus is not introducing a new idea. These words from Jesus is very similar to the words spoken by the Lord to Isaiah. He is fulfilling what the prophet Isaiah had declared long ago.

After Isaiah saw the Lord enthroned in heaven, he was commissioned with a hard task:

“Go and say to this people:
Listen carefully, but do not understand!
Look intently, but do not perceive!
Make the heart of this people sluggish,
dull their ears and close their eyes;
Lest they see with their eyes,
and hear with their ears,
and their heart understand,
and they turn and be healed.”
(Isaiah 6:9-10)

Hearing without understanding. Seeing without perceiving.
A spiritual hardness had overtaken the people.

Then Isaiah, overwhelmed, asks the Lord, how long will this continue and the LORD replies- “And He answered: “Until the cities are laid waste and without inhabitant, The houses are without a man. The land is utterly desolate, The Lord has removed men far away, And the forsaken places are many in the midst of the land. But yet a tenth will be in it, And will return and be for consuming, As a terebinth tree or as an oak, Whose stump remains when it is cut down. So the holy seed shall be its stump.”(Isaiah 6:11-13)

Though judgment would come, though devastation would strip everything away, a remnant would remain.
A stump, a seed — the holy offspring — a prophecy of Jesus Christ Himself.

Even when hearts are hardened, even when everything looks lost, God is still at work.
The holy seed is already planted.

It is in this context that Jesus speaks another parable in Mark 4:21-22, which further reveals he is the Light and the time has come for people to encounter him. “He said to them, ‘Is a lamp brought in to be placed under a bushel basket or under a bed, and not to be placed on a lampstand?
For there is nothing hidden except to be made visible; nothing is secret except to come to light.'”
(Mark 4:21-22)

The lamp represents Christ.
Even if the light seems hidden for a time, it cannot stay hidden forever.
The truth, the light of Jesus, will be revealed.
God’s plan cannot be buried. His Kingdom will shine forth.

Jesus warns and encourages in Mark 4:24-25: “He also told them, ‘Take care what you hear. The measure with which you measure will be measured out to you, and still more will be given to you.
To the one who has, more will be given; from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.'”

The way the Word is received today determines the fruitfulness of tomorrow.
The mysteries of the Kingdom are given to those who seek, to those who listen carefully and open their hearts.

The hearts that are hardened now will one day be softened.
The Light of Christ that seems distant will blaze through the darkness.
The holy seed will take root, and the Kingdom will bear fruit beyond imagining.

The Kingdom is advancing — and no darkness can stop the unfolding plan of God.
